On Wednesday, April 20, the Steelton-Highspire High School True Colors cohort visited Shippensburg University. One of fourteen state-supported universities in Pennsylvania, Shippensburg University offers bachelor’s and master’s degrees in the Colleges of Arts and Sciences, Business, Education, and Human Services. The Princeton Review and U.S. News & World Report have ranked Shippensburg’s John L. Grove College of Business as one of the top business schools in the United States. Moreover, over 90% of the school’s graduates find jobs within three months of graduation. The university’s curricula are akin to the True Colors mission and prospectus. At True Colors, we offer middle to high school students learning opportunities in performing and fine arts, education, health sciences, entrepreneurship, and athletic coaching. Our goal is to help school districts establish a pipeline wherein its graduates return to serve the school community in one of the capacities mentioned above. Our trip to Shippensburg showed the Steel High cohort that the university provides its coeds with life programs and activities beyond the classroom that would assist the students’ professional, academic, and social development.

Special thanks to Assistant Director of Admissions Brandy Brady and Lauren Bryant (tour guide) for an outstanding tour of Shippensburg University and the beautiful campus. Our tour included a “straight talk” conversation with Bishop McDevitt grad and current Shippensburg University sophomore Kasey Eras on her “student life” experiences and her adjustments to college life and living. Her speech was passionate and heart felt and provided our group an insight on some of the adjustments that successful students need to make in order to be successful.

Opportunity and Options! That’s was the GOAL of our TOUR! We want to show students of the many opportunities out there for them. This is the 2nd of 3 college visits. We wanted to show students that there are options in education. Once you understand what the options are…. The focus will shift to MEETING the STANDARDS.
